Jennifer Sumner (RCC)

Committed to compassionate connection.

Major life events can take a toll on our mental health. Even positive transitions can leave us feeling anxious, depressed and alone. My great passion is working with clients, who include women, children, youth, individuals and families, through difficult passages in life to arrive at a place feeling secure and fulfilled.

I provide online counselling in BC and run workshops for Mothers transitioning back into the work force. I’ve worked with youth and families for over 10 years and my work has been featured in Education Canada Magazine’s article, Understanding the Heartbeat, exploring cultural identity and self expression through art and history.

I hold a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and am a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

No single approach works with the range of circumstances life brings us so I’ve trained and worked in a number of modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness for Addiction Therapy.

Outside of my work I am a wife, daughter and proud mother to two young children. In my spare time I enjoy running, dancing, reading and gardening. Before becoming a counsellor I trained as a competitive dancer, and worked as a dance teacher, elementary classroom teacher and high school Careers and History teacher.

Finding a counsellor you connect with is essential for the therapeutic process. I have worked with clients from all walks of life and want you to know that you will be treated with respect and compassion.
